Roadtrek Zion: A Versatile and Well-Designed Camper Van

The Roadtrek Zion

Roadtrek camper vans have been popular and well-regarded for over 40 years, with many fiercely loyal customers. They were a market leader in the design of Class B motorhomes for decades, until changes in ownership eventually led to bankruptcy. But the Roadtrek brand has been revamped and revitalized since Groupe Rapido acquired the company in 2019, and it’s making an incredible comeback. Headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, the company is building high quality Class B RVs again for the North American market. If you haven’t recently checked out their lineup, you’ll want to take a look at all of the models they have to offer. Especially the Zion.

What is the Roadtrek Zion?

The Roadtrek Zion is a Class B camper van built on a Ram ProMaster van chassis. It’s a maneuverable and comfortable short-length coach. This van has made it super easy to get into RVing for those with little to no previous RV experience. Because of its compact size, it can go into very small campsites and off-the-grid locations where larger Class C coaches sometimes have challenges. It can even double as the family vehicle in addition to being a camper, making it perfect for hauling kids around town, from school to little league practices.

What are the key features of the Roadtrek Zion motorhome?

The Zion features a 3.6-Liter V6 gas engine with 280 horsepower and an automatic 6-speed transmission. It comes with standard anti-lock brakes and polished 16” aluminum wheels. Optional rear SumoSprings can provide enhanced load carrying ability, sway stabilization, improved driver control and ride comfort. The Zion has highly polished good looks that give it a lot of curb appeal. Roadtrek removes and custom paints the nearly three dozen unpainted plastic body panels and accessories that come from the van chassis manufacturer, to color match the rest of the chassis exterior for a complete full-body painted look. This attention to detail gives the Zion a luxurious appearance beyond its humble van roots.

Exterior Features of the Zion:

Exterior features include standard power steps for the front cab doors and coach entry door, premium flush-mount dark-tinted windows with thick glass and slider openings, a power patio awning, and a 3,500-pound rated hitch. Heavy duty, magnetic bug screens are located at both the sliding coach entry door and the rear cargo doors. Optional exterior features include a Thule bike rack, roof rack and telescopic ladder. Powering the Zion are an optional under-hood generator and an optional roof-mounted lithium battery solar panel system. The coach features 30-amp shore power, a roof-mounted air conditioner, an automatic propane furnace, and a propane tank.

Cab Features:

The cab of the Zion has comfy, swiveling driver and passenger seats with a touch screen entertainment and navigation system, as well as a rearview backup camera. There’s a telescopic steering wheel with cruise control and the ProMaster chassis provides several helpful safety features. Roadtrek has provided seating and travel capacity for up to five people, along with sleeping capacity for two people. A portable pedestal work or dining table can be set up and used at either the front cab seats, or in the rear of the coach.

Bathroom Features:

With a fully enclosed bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet, the Zion puts functionality and practicality at the top of its priorities. The galley kitchen in the middle of the coach has a stainless-steel sink, a fold-away countertop extension, deep storage drawers, and a pull-out pantry cabinet, along with ample overhead storage cabinets. Appliances include a standing-height refrigerator, a two-burner propane stove (or optional one-burner inductive cooktop), and a small microwave oven.

Sleeping and Living Features:

In the rear of the coach, the living and sleeping area comes with a 24” TV on a rotating bracket and two rear power sofas that can be used as twin beds, or easily transformed into a king-size bed. Or you can choose the optional forward facing power sofa that converts into a king-size bed. A wardrobe cabinet, overhead cabinets, and deep lower storage compartments all provide suitable space for your personal items.
