Why the Winnebago Travato Campervan is Right for You

So you’re looking for the perfect camper van. You’ve probably spent hours poring over different specs, reviews, and inventories in search of the right brand and model for your needs. While we can’t know your specific preferences for sure from behind the screen, may we humbly suggest an innovative, efficient van that’s been dubbed “the campervan for all campers?”

The Winnebago Travato is an incredibly versatile Class B RV that appeals to a wide range of adventurers, from young digital nomads to retired snowbirds. It’s this wide appeal that has earned the Travato its position as the top-selling camper van in North America. This van is energy efficient, has unique streamlined features, and is ideal for easy-going travel in the elements. Sound interesting? We’re giving you all the important details on the Winnebago Travato below.

Why Winnebago?

For several decades, Winnebago Industries has been one of America’s leaders in recreational vehicles. In fact, Winnebago is the only brand of its kind that has been recognized with the Quality Circle Award from the Recreation Vehicle Dealer Association every single year since it was founded.

Although the company has an impressive foundation, they don’t rest on their laurels. They are constantly striving to innovate and change the game with new designs and features. From wheelchair-accessible adventure vans like the Roam to clean energy powerhouses like the Boldt, Winnebago is looking toward the future. For more reasons we love Winnebago, check out our post.

Out of Winnebago’s impressive array of options, the Travato is not to be overlooked. Why? For starters, this camper van is extremely energy and fuel-efficient—a boon for both your wallet and the planet. Save on gas and instead splurge on national park passes, excellent meals, specialty outdoors equipment, and whatever else floats your boat. Because of its fuel efficiency and expandable solar system, the Travato is also more eco-friendly than the camper vans of yesterday, doing its part to protect the pristine natural environments it allows you to explore.

Secondly, the Winnebago Travato was designed with clever streamlined features that provide the best living and traveling experience possible. Enjoy the laid-back luxury of details like a bamboo shower platform, a sink and range top with glass covers for extra surface area, and plenty of hidden storage. Extend your living space outside using a powered patio awning with an exterior speaker system and porch light. Get your best night’s sleep on an extra comfortable bed thanks to the Deluxe FROLI Sleep System with improved airflow and additional cushioning.

Winnebago Travato Design

Perhaps most importantly, the Travato makes use of Winnebago’s SmartSpace design principles to create the most efficient interior floor plans, including an option with a larger corner bed and one with two twin beds. With everything you need neatly tucked on board, it’s easy to forget that the van has such a small footprint.

Lastly, the Travato is a great investment because it is designed for all-weather travel. Travato owners can extend the camping season beyond the wildest dreams of tent campers and are rewarded with less-crowded campsites at the most popular spots. Take on any temperatures with roof and sidewall insulation, optional insulated windows, above-floor waterlines, and heated tanks. Stay cozy in the winter without using up too much fuel thanks to the highly efficient Truma Combi® Eco Plus heating system.

In the summer, the 13,500 BTU high-efficiency roof air conditioner will keep you cool. A European blind system also provides privacy, extra insulation, and shade, while a side screen door and optional rear screen door allow you to enjoy fresh air inside your van. All of these features mean you—and your pets—can enjoy optimal temperatures for comfort and safety throughout the year.

Quick Comparison of 2022 Winnebago Travato Models

If you plan to mainly stay at RV Parks and campsites with hookups, the more affordable 59G will suit your needs perfectly. If you want to do a lot of boondocking, especially in more drastic weather conditions, you should consider investing in a model with the lithium energy system—either the 59GL or 59KL. Choosing between those two is a matter of preference regarding interior layouts. Select the floor plan that makes the most sense for your lifestyle and travel goals.

Rec Van offers all three of the 2022 models described in this post, as well as a variety of new and used models from 2021 and 2020. To browse all of the Winnebago Travato camper vans currently available, click here.
